Hitting a baseball is among the hardest tasks in sports. The batter has less than a second to decide to swing and the umpire seems all too eager to call a strike when the hitter takes a close pitch. While this is no doubt an umpire’s job, there are instances where an umpire can take his job too far and ultimately upset the course of the game by becoming part of the game.

One instance where an umpire can change the course of the game is by inventing problems that don’t exist. For instance, a pitcher beans a hitter and the umpire issues warnings to both teams. If another pitcher hits a batter, even by accident, that pitcher gets ejected from the game as well as his manager as it’s assumed he called for the hit batter. In addition to potentially losing players or managers critical to the game, ejections by the umpire result in pitchers who no longer throw inside pitches. The pitcher doesn’t want an ejection from the game for an accidental hit by pitch so they pitch consistently to the outer part of the plate allowing hitters to sit on the outside pitch.

Umpires who step towards players or the pitcher’s mound can also disrupt a game. The other people in the park don’t know whats transpired between the umpire and player but the visual of the umpire moving towards them can result in a player feeling shown up. In this instance, yelling escalates and soon more players get ejected out of the game.

Everyone is trying to save a dollar these days and there is nothing wrong with that. As a matter of fact in the world of fashion there are plenty of reasons to believe that less is more, or at the very least, the same. Why spend $50 on something you can easily get for $20. Well, the truth is that this idea is not always true especially in the case of athletic clothing. Spending the extra dollars could save you a lot of money in the long run.

When you buy a shirt the chances are it’s going to see relatively little abuse. You’ll wear it to dinner or out to a party, or maybe even to work, but it’s not going to be put through the ringer of your life. The same cannot be said of athletic clothes. After all, they are meant for you to be athletic in. This is why spending a little more on something like Nike clothes really matters. They have the fabric that is built to last through the wear and tear of tennis, basketball, running and golf. No matter what you are doing with your clothes they are built to survive it.

So maybe it’s a little more expensive but that just means that you are going to be able to go through less of them. Instead of buying three or four new shirts over the course of the year, you can keep the same shirt for years. Those is no reason to be stingy in your athletic wear.

Over a billion dollars is awarded every year to college students to play sports. How can you get some? Well, the process starts early and it takes a lot of work. But millions of other students have earned a college degree – whether they ever went on to play professionally or not – and you cannot get it if you do not try.

First, keep up your grades. You may think that your scholarship is totally dependent on your talent and skill on the field, court or track, but learning good study habits is the best way to earn that scholarship and to keep it once you are in college. Many colleges and universities have been plagued with player scandals, and many coaches are looking for players that will make the program proud all of the time, not just during the game.

Next, know the recruitment rules. College coaches have limits when it comes to contacting high school students. You will probably receive some type of notice by your junior year if college coaches are taking a look at you. If you have not heard anything by your senior year, you may need to take steps to get some of their attention.

Finally, be a team player. Coaches are looking for team leaders as much as they are star hot shots. Show that you are in it for the team and not just yourself, and coaches will take notice. Part of being a team player is giving your all every time you play. This is how you will stand out and be noticed when it comes time for coaches to hand out those coveted scholarships.

There are a number of benefits that are associated with participating in sports, sports clubs and related activities when you are in school. Many schools offer sports teams that are a core part of the curriculum in school, while others offer sports clubs and similar activities but do not make the sports themselves a part of the curriculum. Either way, as a student obtaining your education, it would be wise to consider participating in a sport due to the benefits that they offer.

Benefits of Sports in School

As an example, team sports are excellent at building camaraderie and teamwork. People who participate in team sports are much more likely to excel at team work, group activities and similar activities just because they are used to working with other people.

Team sports also provide excellent cardiovascular activity, and so practicing a team sport several times a week is going to be great for your health from head to toe.

Team sports also build confidence. Think about it this way: When you have something that you excel at, this is going to allow you to develop a sense of pride and confidence in yourself. Find a team sport that you are good at, and that you enjoy doing, and it will help to build your self esteem and will have a profoundly positive impact on shaping who you are as a person.

There are so many great benefits associated with participating in sports in school, that if you are not already playing a team sport for fun and enjoyment, you should absolutely begin to today.

A team sport is any sport that involves player to work together for a common goal. As a team you make decisions, communicate and solve problems in a supportive manner, every team is different it just depends on what sport you play. Team sports help with socializing, talking amongst team members will also help with other relationships that you have with like your family and with friends. Team sports with children and adults helps with getting along with others, making new friends and sportsman ship, which helps with both children and adult with the winning and losing battle, not rubbing it in their face when you win and not taking a loss to heart. Being social in team sports is another thing that it has to offer, you can hang out with your friends and play the sport and be supportive of one another too. Team sport also require exercise, in today’s society there are children that are obese because they do not get enough exercise, healthy body usually mean healthy minds. There is more to team sport then just winning, a player can find a positive mentor while playing sports that has a positive effect of their life. Team sports also teaches that you need to practice to get better , to have patience and to be persistent, which like everything else can be used in anyone’s daily life. Another reason to play team sport is to have family time; time with your family will want to make you play better for your family and yourself, not a lot of families get to spend that much time together and team sport can be one way of doing that. Team sport can make you the person you want to be if you just put your mind to it and make an effort.

The National Football League has some of the most complicated rules in all of North American professional sports. For people who are new to NFL football, or just have a difficult time following the rules, we offer this insight into the more difficult rules.

1) Pass interference

Pass interference occurs when the defending player makes contact with the offensive player in such a way that it interferes with the offensive player’s ability to catch the football. The contact must be made prior to the arrival of the football. Offensive players can be called for pass interference as well. When the ball is in the air, both the offensive and defensive player have the right to catch it. Incidental contact is what the officials will rule if they feel that the players inadvertently ran into each other while trying to catch the ball.

2) False start / Encroachment / Unabated to the quarterback

A false start is an offensive illegal procedure penalty that means that someone, usually an offensive lineman, simulated the snap of the ball before the ball was snapped. Even the slightest flinch can cause a penalty. On the other side, if the defensive player jumps and causes the offensive player to move, then that is called encroachment. If a defensive player crosses the line of scrimmage prior to the snap and makes a move towards the quarterback, then the referee will usually throw unabated to the quarterback in with encroachment.

There are many rules in the NFL that can be confusing. Once you understand the rules of the game, you can begin to enjoy watching the game even more.

The sports gambler has a tremendous amount of information at hand to help him make a good bet. He has the athlete’s history, which includes both a college and professional career. This helps the gambler develop a profile of each athlete on his favorite sports team. He has the coach’s history, too. Certainly previous games and season’s figures are thrown into the mix as well. However, the novice might forget about the referees. Can referees affect betting strategies? Absolutely.

There are plenty of gamblers and strategists who blog about professional sports referees’ performances. By keeping records of each ref’s different calls, a good gambler can figure that into his betting strategy. One place to practice sports gambling is at an online casino. Many offer professional sports betting, as well as fantasy game betting. If you’re a novice, and you want to be frugal with your money, look for sites that offer a casino bonus. This will get you into the game at a discounted rate and allow you to practice your tactics a little more.

If you enjoy going to a live casino, then visit the sports betting room, and talk with other sports gamblers. Ask them how they figure the referee into their betting decisions. With their insight and some online practice of your own, you can become as skilled as the most savvy gamblers. You’ll add excitement to your favorite team sports, and you’ll come to understand the role of referees in predicting a game’s outcome. Since the referee line ups for each game are readily available on the Internet, you should have no problem adding this piece of information to your wagers.

The benefits to playing sports in college are Financial, social, physical, and emotional. Usually student athletes sometimes receive different types of financial assistance like academic scholarships, athletic scholarships, grants, aid, and a work study program. Some students are awarded a large amount of money to go to college from playing sports in high school. The social aspect of college sport is that you already have friends when you start college because you are on a sports team, because some athletic students can show up to their freshman year early to get settled in and other things. So basically you already have a social base already and that means you’re ahead of everyone else. Physically being an athletic student means that you are in shape and should stay in shape, most colleges require that if you’re on a sports team that you should be in shape. They also insist that you are on a proper diet with nutrition and that you exercise on a regular basis, so that you can have energy and perform properly too. As a college student being away from home can be rough at first, but if you have a supportive coach and team members you should be fine, Emotional needs can be met and you have some people to talk to for support. All athletic college students have to do well educationally and keep up their grade point average to even be able play. Playing sport in college can also help you in your professional career, because some jobs want a team orientated person that has solid time management skills.

There are more professions in sports than just being an athlete; the people who help the athlete are in sports too. There are athletic trainer, coaches, and sports casters and so on. Trainers help train the athlete by having them work out, eat healthy and how to prevent and injury while playing the sport. Yes sports trainers are health care worker that work under a doctor’s supervision to treat the athlete’s injuries. In order to be an athletic trainer you will probably need a Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in sports medicine. Some states also require that you are licensed and registered before you can even think about a job. Another profession would be an athletic coach, an athletic coach instruct the player in there technique and forms of the sport, they play a vital role in an athlete’s career. Athletic coaches are usually required to have a bachelor’s degree in sports management. They are also required to have experience and have participated in the sport itself. Coaches will need good communication and leadership skills; they should also be resourceful and flexible at times. Another great job for someone who loves sports but doesn’t play would be a sports broadcaster; they do need knowledge in sport and the education to back it up. Sport broadcaster’s need a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast journalism, with that education you could either be on the radio or on television, and knowing what’s going on in sports is a big help, like the scores, player and injuries of the players.

Game tables are a nice thing to have if a person likes playing frequently. Many people meet in regular groups to play poker because it’s fun. It’s so fun that some people even make their living doing it and some of them do quite well. It isn’t a good idea to begin to play games of chance for a living because that whole chance and risk deal is unstable, but there’s lots of fun to be had.

It’s even fun while learning to play poker, and it can be turned into a family game. It teaches kids math, helps develop their memory and teaches them to take turns and have good sportsmanship. It’s a good idea to learn from an experienced player, if at all possible, because he will know more than just the rules. He can teach strategy-making skills and nuances of the game. If a game or book is the only possible teacher, the person can still play and learn the nuances, it will just take longer to learn them by experience.

One way to encourage the family game night is to let everyone help pick out one of many beautiful custom poker tables. Some of them come with markings for more than one game, so a player could also get a few decks of cards, poker chips and some sets of dice to be prepared for just about any casino game at home.

Make sure the custom table has the best felt; it should be of the same quality that billiard tables are covered with, and it comes in different colors. It’s nice to have cup holders at each place setting beside the chip wells with a little room for the cards in front of each player. That way snacks can be enjoyed during the learning of the game without worries of spilling on the table.

Individual sports are just that, it’s a sport that you play as an individual. Some individual sports include figure skating; Chess, golf, boxing, gymnastics, skiing and tennis just to name a few. Playing an individual sport means that you get full credit of you accomplishments and you get the glory if you win, but if you lose you’re the only one to blame. In children some individual sport are better for them when they have a social disability, where they don’t have to deal with anyone but themselves, if there are given the choice to choose what they want to do for a sport, let them do what they want. Sports don’t just exercise their bodies it exercises there mind also, they either want to play because everyone else is or they want to for their own enjoyment. Some also choose individual sports because they don’t want to be a part of a team and just want to do it for themselves. Individual sports teach self reliance and self confidence, which will also be used in everyday life in one way or another , also teaches them that they can stand alone win or lose and they can be ok whatever the outcome may be. Yes team sports may teach social networking, team work and sportsmanship, individual spots can be used as a developmental tool to make anyone a strong, capable, confident person that can stand alone and do well for themselves. Any kind of sport can help in other aspect of life, some strive to be good at all things in their life and other just play to have fun, that their choice. Individual sports are more about personal growth and accomplishments. Participating in an individual sport can be a way to develop a new skill or to train for a different activity that may not have anything to do with sports at all.

The world of sports betting is growing every day, but that doesn’t mean that your knowledge of it is increasing. The truth is that the faster it grows the harder it is to keep up with it. So here are some simple tips to help you achieve the maximum results.

The way betting works is that the bookie sets the betting line on a particular event or sport. Football, for instance, works on a point spread system. If you were betting for or against the spread, then you would get money if your bet pays out. The bookie covers the bet if it loses and takes your money if it wins.

The rules for baseball, another highly bet on sport, are very different. Betting on baseball works by placing money down to bet on a team’s success. For instance, the bet on the New York Yankees, you might need a wager $165 to win $100. This is because the sportsbook expects the Yankees to win the game anyway. To make money, the bookie needs to set a higher risk to offer a significant reward.

The best way to bet on a sport is to go through sports betting sites. Most of the websites provide instructions to make it incredibly easy to bet on sports. All you do is register with the website and navigate through it to find the sport bet that is right for you.

These sites are also incredibly helpful in explaining what each wager means and what the experts are saying about a particular bet. While the websites are not there to make sure you win, they are there to make sure that you make the most informed choice with your money.

Betting on sports is growing every single day. Thanks to the Internet, it’s getting easier and easier to bet on games. Using the Internet, you can find everything you need to start enjoying sports betting today.

Have you ever thought about being a referee, watching a game on television saying that you could probably do it better than the referee already in the game? There are some things you need to take into consideration before you even think about it, first it would be a good idea but not necessary to have played the sport you want to referee, so you know a little more about the game when getting started. You probably should also be familiar with the rule of the sport you are refereeing; having a basic knowledge of the rule is a good start, having no opinion what so ever that you can make the right call on each play and act accordingly to it. Referees are usually independent contractors that have signed an agreement or contract with whatever sports organization, referees just getting into the business should know that they will be devoting a lot of time and energy to all games, their schedules could be grueling at times. Referees must attend meetings during the week when the players are practicing, these meetings are usually prior to the game and never interfere, these meeting are to address any concerns that anyone might have and can be brought to everyone’s attention. The amount that a referee gets paid is $40,000 to $70,000 per year, but it also depends on home much experience the referee has and their performance during the season. Sometimes the biggest adjustment to being a referee is that you will be the decision maker, you enforce the rules of the game and not always will everyone be help with the calls you make. Before you can even think about becoming a referee you will need the proper training and schooling and need to be certified, so when you’re done with all of that try refereeing in smaller groups and then think about going into the professional sport aspect after you get some experience.

The importance of sport is different for everyone, either you want to play or you don’t. If you choose to play sport at any point in your life it teach you discipline, responsibility, and dedication, which can be used in any aspect of life. Most sports also offer physical fitness to its player, so if you’re playing a sport that you love you are also getting the exercise you need to stay fit. In team sports you learn how to play as a team and that can be used in other places in your life such as with co workers and relationships with others. Learning success and failure in sports can be great way to deal with it in your regular life, especially in kids and young adults. Playing sport is also a great way to meet new friends, learning new things and it also fills up free time that you might have. When you regularly do sports you are exercising, and when you exercise it helps your immune system in return means that you can fight off diseases. Sport also can sometime increase some appetite also. Some even say that sports help with some peoples self confidence, especially for someone who is shy and doesn’t make friends easily. When a child excels in sports and when the coaches and other players congratulate them, it gives them a boost and makes them feel great about themselves. Sports sometimes can even help you get into college, if a student excels in sports then can use that advantage to get a scholarship into college, which will pay a considerable amount of your college tuition. That means that if play sport in high school to get into college, you will probably be playing sports in college too. So if you like sports, love being healthy and like being part of a team then sport could work for you.

Team sports across all ends of the spectrum are vastly growing in popularity more so than ever before. Whether the sport is basketball, baseball, or football, more people are becoming interested in one way or another. Among one of the more popular ways that people are becoming involved is through school and city run team sports programs. These types of activities are fantastic for socializing, building a common bond between team mates, as well as promoting the creation of friendship.

In conjunction with community team sports, there is a growing interest in the pursuit of professional sports. People enjoy watching professional athletes play their favorite sports while participating in immense styles of team work while exhibiting seemingly super natural physical abilities. Much like community team sports, professional sports also brings people together; though, in a somewhat different way. Where community sports tends to promote a more serious side through team building and healthy competition, professional sports is a much more recreational thing for the fans that enjoy watching it. As such, it is one of the top pass-times of Americans.

In all, team sports is a wonderful thing that is utilized on a daily basis in a number of different ways. As it continues to grow in popularity, as will the amount of different ways it can positively benefit the people involved; whether through keeping younger kids off the streets by getting them involved in a city run basketball program, or giving someone a fantastic idea for a first date via a professional football game, team sports is bringing people together in droves of different ways.

Professional sports is a passion for many people. Through this overwhelming passion, some people find themselves getting somewhat emotional during specific sporting events. These emotions can result in a number of different things; from happiness that your team just scored, or anger at opposing fans. No other occurrence in sporting events is more evident of this fact than the ongoing battle between fans and referees. Obviously, referees are paid to do their job in officiating over the game and making calls as necessary for balance and fairness. However, referees are human, which means they can make mistakes. However, at times, whether or not the referee makes a mistake does not mean a fan will not disagree with their call.

Whether the game is a normal season game, or a play-off game, there are always disagreements between referees and fans. While in fact there have been very few cases of reported tampering by referees to ensure the win of a particular team, some people are still under the illusion of favoritism and purposely bad calls being exhibited by officials. In most cases, however, this is not true in the least.

As long as there is passion for sporting events, there will always be disagreements between fans and officials. However, due to the fact it has been such an ongoing occurrence, it has become somewhat tradition, and part of the game in itself. As long as it is done tastefully and without having a particular situation spiral out of control, which unfortunately, can and does happen, fan bantering of officating calls will remain an expected aspect of the game.

Being top shape is just as important for officials as it is for the players. Most people who have attended a sporting event can attest to the difficulty an official has when they are not in good shape. Knowing how to stay in shape is important for many different reasons. First, it allows for the official to concentrate on the task at hand, which is officiating the game, not focusing on how tired they are. Second, because if a referee is not in shape it will be hard for them to keep up with the players and see the whole game as it is happening. This could lead to missed calls or inaccurate calls. The third reason is simply because it is important for atmosphere for everyone including the officials to recognize the importance of staying fit and health and how that correlates to sports. Here are a few exercises to stay in shape.

Three Fitness Exercises for Officials

1. Jogging- Long distance running is great for the body because it stretches the muscles out, but it is important in sports when an official must have the endurance for long periods of time. Jogging lost distances every day with help the body to be more acclimated to running for the duration of a sporting event.

2. Sprinting- Sprinting short distances is an effective way to build leg muscle, but also the best way to train the body for the short bursts of speed that are required for an official to move up and down the field with the players.

3. Yoga- Yoga is the most effective way to keep the body limber and flexible. Flexibility will allow an official to maintain top shape while saving the body from the risk of injury.

When you place money on sports, you always want to win and make money. Sportsbetting, however is a difficult skill to acquire. Even some of the best sports analyzers get outcomes wrong from time to time. If you don’t have a lot of experience in sports betting, then you might find that you need to acquire a few skills before placing bets online. That way you can make smart, informed bets that earn money.

Sports Betting Online

Anyone who has participated in online casino games knows that the people there have skills that help them determine whether sports teams will win or lose. At times, these gamblers seem like legitimate soothsayers with the ability to see the outcomes of future competitions. Of course, they’re not psychics. They have skills and experience that help them make good decisions when participating in online casino games.

Know Your Sport

The most important thing that you can do is learn about the sport that interests you. In fact, you might want to pick a certain conference or league to follow. That way you will accumulate an intimate understanding of all the times in that organization. When it comes time to place a bet, you can make an informed decision about which team will win.

Put Your Emotions Aside

You love your local teams, but that doesn’t mean you should always bet on them. Good sports gamblers know to set their emotions aside and make objective decisions about which team will win a game. That could mean betting against your favorite team from time to time. If you don’t feel up to betting against them, then simply refrain from playing. Letting your emotions take control of your bet will only lead to losses.

It takes some time to gain enough experience to bet on sports successfully. Start small and work your way up to bigger bets. Eventually, you’ll know how to spot winners and make appropriate bets.

Getting into the officiating business is fairly easy, and finding work can be just easy if an official or aspiring official knows where to go. However, if someone doesn’t know where to go then the officiaiting industry can seem more like a foreign world. There are a multitude of sports to officiate, and the age groups range from very small children who are just learning to high school and professional athletics. Before applying to a business or accreditation group a official should first think about what sports or sport they would like to officiate and which age group. Beginners usually do better with youth sports clubs while more seasoned officials do better in the high school to professional level. After knowing what sport and age group, all a person has to do is look for an officiating organization with room. Here are just a few organizations in Australia.

Three Organizations for Australian Officials

1. Netball Australia- Netball Australia is an organization that deals with volleyball. Joining Netball will provide officials with the opportunity to officiate at every level from youth the professional depending the officials experience. However, Netball is not an organization that trains and accredits officials, it is simply an organization for accomplished officials or those looking for the new requirements. Training would have to be done elsewhere.

2. MMAOA- MMAOA is an organization for officials for mixed martial arts. The organization provides everything from information on how to become accredited to upcoming events and any other information that officials might need.

3. Australian Gridiron Officials- The Australian Gridiron Officials organization is an organization that helps football officials in Australian with everything from training and rules, to accreditation and job openings. This is a great organization for people who are involved or would like to be involved in football officiating.

Anyone can officiate. The key is finding what sport at what age, then just going for it. Organizations all over Australian are willing to help accredit officials.

Image via Wikipedia

Many officials believe that if they are in shape, know the game at which they are officiating that they are fine. However, that is not always the truth. Officials have to work just as hard, if not harder sometimes than the athletes that they are officiating because they do not get a chance to sustitute or take a break if they get tired. The newspaper every year has articles about players in top shape going down during practice or a game because they have not hydrated. If officials were as important to the media as the players were then there would probably be articles about officials going dow from dehydration as well. Being hydrate is the most important thing an athlete or official can do before an event. High intensity athletics cause the body to sweat out the water inside, and if that water is not replenished the body will lose it’s ability to cool itself. Here are some reasons why staying hydrated is so important.

Importance of Keeping Hydrated

1. Performance- Just like training and eat healthy, if the body does not have the appropriate amount of fluids in it, it will not perform at top shape. Drinking water the day before and the day of a sporting event is the best way to ensure that the body will be hydrated and performing at the highest ability.

2. Health- Dehydration can cause everything from muscle cramps to brain damage to even death. Drinking water or other fluids is the only way to ensure that body will be hydrated. To make sure that no health problems will occur during sporting events, officials should keep hydrated.

3. Focus- If an official is not hydrated they will not be able to focus on the game. Their brain will be focused more on the need for water, and vital body parts needed for performance will be put to the side.

Staying hydrated is the best way for an official to ensure that they will perform

Ever since there has been coaches coaching and officials officiating, there has been arguments. Good coaches will always explain to the officials something they believe is not being called or is being missed. A large majority of those coaches will also “work” the official any chance they have. This can be an effective way to make an official understand something that is happening in the game they aren’t seeing, but often time it goes past effective.

While some coaches are effective, others can be unruly, disruptive, and in violation of the rules. Knowing how to react to coaches who like to talk to the officials a lot is the only way to survive officiating. Here are a few ways to deal with those coaches who are more unruly then effective.

How to Deal With Unruly Coaches

1. Explanation- Sometimes in order to get a coach to cool down all an official has to do is to explain to them the nature of a call or what ever they may be confused about. By pulling the coach aside at a stoppage in the game and explaining why something happened, the official can save themselves a lot time bantering back and forth and concentrate on the match at hand.

2. Ignore Them- If a coach persists to talk to the official, sometimes it is just best to ignore them. If the coach is not being confrontational or disrupting the game, but being more of a nuisance, the best idea sometimes is to just ignore them.

3. Warning/Technical- Giving a coach a warning or penalizing them for their behavior is a last resort. It should only be used if no other techniques are working. However, sometimes with unruly coaches the only thing an official can do is to penalize them or ask them to leave the game. This seldom happens, so it is just as important for the official to keep their temper under control as the coach.

Dealing with unruly coaches is a game of finesse that an official gets better at over time.

In any line of work or hobby it is important to stay at the forefront of the industry. Rules in sports are being changed and improved on all the time. This means that officials should also be improving and understanding the changes as they happen. Being prepared is just as important for officials as it is for the players and coaches. Sometimes the problem is that the officials think they are on top of recent changes, or want to be but they just don’t know where to find the information. Therefore, here are a few resources that can be used to help keep officials on top of their game.

Three Resources for Being a Better Official

1. Books- Ex-players, officials and coaches are constantly writing books about all kinds of sports. Going to the bookstore and reading those books is a great way to understand how the other side sees the game, and their common critiques of what they feel the officials are missing or not doing effectively. Books on new officiating rules are also a great way to keep up with any rule changes or theories on how to be a better official.

2. Training- Officials can join State or Federal programs that will teach them how to be officials and also certify them. This is not only a way to learn from the professionals how to officiate, but it is also a way to make more money and ensure that you will know where to get work.

3. Clinics- Organizations hold clinics at the beginning of every sport season. This is a great way for officials to meet other officials, and brush up anything that they might have forgotten. It is also a great way to learn any new rules or rule improvements. These clinics are usually fairly cheap and can be found on the internet with ease.

Nobody wants sit at a youth or professional event and listen to the person or people next to them swear and curse about the players and officials. Likewise, athletes to no want to hear the spectators or other players cursing either. Competitions should be fun and the focus should be on the situation happening not the language. How swearing and cursing is dealt with is usually on a official to official basis. There rules prohibit the use of language or threats, but each official makes the final decision on what they deem necessary or offense. Here are just a few ways that swearing defaces the game.

Three Ways Swearing is Bad for the Game

1. Promotes and Incites Violence- Most people do not enjoy being yelled at or swore at by another person. Offense language is often violent in nature and promotes violence. As well, when people are being sworn at they sometimes react with violence. By not allowing anyone to swear, the officials can effectively ensure that a yelling battle will not turn into a physical altercation.

2. Offends Players and/or Spectators- Sporting events for the most part are a family affair, especially youth sports. Swearing or cursing by a parent/spectator, or player can be very offensive. The players and spectators alike must both understand that their language effects every one around the.

3. Teaches Bad Habits- When youth are allowed to swear they are being taught bad habits. In the same breath, if parents, spectators, and/or players are swearing then the kids in the stands are being taught bad lessons. Teaching young children not to swear is important and by not allowing swearing the official will send the message that swearing is offensive and not tolerated.

Swearing and cursing is a good way to ruin a fun game. Understanding how language effects the atmosphere of a sporting event is important for an official.

In any match or sport the most important job of the official is to keep control of the game. Every aspect and facet of officiating is built around the idea that with out the official there would be no control in the game. If this weren’t the case than there wouldn’t be any reason to officials in the first place. Keeping control of the game can sometimes mean being a disciplinarian and other times it may feel like being prison a warden. For those instances when the players and coaches are having trouble keeping their emotions under control, the official can help them and avoid any situation from escalating. Here are few reasons why keeping the game under control is so important.

The Importance of Keeping the Game Under Control

1. Safety- The number one reason why the official must keep the game under control is to provide a safe environment for both the coaches and the players. When officials lose control of the game tempers often an flair and emotions get out of control. This can be a recipe for injuries and even altercations.

2. Integrity of the event- When athletes of any age are performing to the best of their abilities is not only a great experience for them, but for the spectators as well. When the game is no longer in control, then the integrity of the game is lost. By observing the rules and following them, every one can better appreciate the competition and fun.

Keeping the game under control can mean the difference between a fun time and a dangerous time for every one from the players to the spectators. Having control creates an environment of safe competition, and after all isn’t that what the officials are for in the first place.
